Where to turn if you experience an incident that makes you feel unsafe

Here to help

At ITU we value a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all. We believe that all students and staff should contribute to creating and maintaining our shared environment by acting in ways that include, invite, and respect others.

No one should behave in a way that offends, is intimidating or hostile, degrading, or humiliating to others. This applies to all activities at the ITU campus, in any related digital spaces, as well as ITU related social functions regardless of their location.

If you experience or observe offensive, discriminatory, sexist, or other behaviour that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable while being a student at ITU we are here to help you!

We handle all questions or enquiries with great concern.

Find out below where to turn for help and guidance and what you might expect in the process.

Outcomes or sanctions

The concrete outcomes, consequences, or possible sanctions always relate to the severity of the case and the specific situation.

1. Reach out to The Study and Career Guidance

The Study- & Career Guidance is trained to handle challenging, diverse and sensitive topics. Offensive behaviour may be difficult to talk about, but please reach out even if you are in doubt about what you may have experienced.

Nothing is too big or too small to talk to us about! We offer initial and clarifying conversations that take place anonymously and are completely confidential.

Write to  studentadvisors@itu.dk or contact us by phone or in person.

Students may choose to contact the Head of Student Affairs & Programmes, Lene Rehder (lenr@itu.dk or +45 5164 3718), directly if they so prefer.

2. Confidential conversation

In the first clarifying and confidential conversation with a Student advisor, we may talk about what the next relevant steps should be.

If you find it helpful you are always welcome to bring a companion, friend, or family to join the meeting/conversation. It is important that you feel as safe and confident as possible.

We support and guide you no matter whether you decide to allow for ITU to investigate the enquiry more in depth – or if you choose not to pursue the issue any further (and the matter will remain fully confidential).

3. The process of exploring an enquiry at ITU

If we are to help and follow up by undertaking relevant measures as well as preventing similar incidents, in most cases we need to investigate the incident in-depth based on your experience.
This means that Head of SAP, Lene Rehder, will be involved to help lead the further process.

Depending on the situation, this may involve dialogue with the involved parties. We strive to match and balance your needs at every step in the process, but at this stage it may not always be possible to remain fully anonymous.

4. Possible outcomes or sanctions

The goal for all involved is to maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment where everyone feels safe.

The concrete outcomes, consequences, or possible sanctions always relate to the severity of the case and the specific situation.

At ITU examples of sanctions and outcomes have previously consisted in follow-up conversations, apologies, warnings, ’pause for thoughts’, mediatory or instructive conversations.
